Our monthly Third Saturday Ride is this Saturday, May 17th. Meet up at the Oakland Plantation National Park in Bermuda at 8:00am and we will ride at 8:30am. We have a 14 mile and 21 mile loop but you can turn back any time you like. We hope you will join us for a beautiful, casual ride.
Our next Bike Natchitoches meeting will be held on April 15th at 5:30pm at the Art Center located at 716 Second Street in Natchitoches.
Get your bikes out, fill the tires, oil the chains and join us this Saturday, April 5th for a leisurely ride on the first road in Natchitoches Parish that has a bicycle lane. Meet at the U.S. Fish Hatchery Aquarium parking lot on Hwy 1 South at 8:00 am, the ride will start at 8:30 am. We will ride south on Hwy 1 to Hwy 478, the Water Wells road. This road goes under I 49 to Hwy 120 in Flora. Round trip from I 49 is about 12 miles, from Flora about 21 miles. There are some hills, so we will take our time and enjoy the open road. We hope to see you there.
Please join us for our first ever youth oriented group ride! It will be next Saturday the 27th on the NSU Campus. We will meet at the parking lot on the North East end of campus near the Elementary Lab School by the now empty graduate housing.
The ride will take place on the trail by Chaplin Lake which is about 1 1/4 miles of nicely paved path. Riders of different experience levels may want to only do part of the trail or multiple laps. Since the trail is off of the main campus roads this is a great environment for younger riders to get some experience biking with others without the worry of general traffic. More advanced riders are welcome to ride the road as well and tour parts of campus if desired.
This is a full family event. Please stay with your children to help them as while the trail is mostly flat and smooth there are a couple of sharper turns and small hills that inexperienced riders will need help with. You are responsible for your own children. All ages and skill levels are welcome – whether a tricycle/balance bike, training wheels, or full on mountain/hybrid/road bike ready. Bring your bike and have fun riding with your kids!
Please make sure to bring water and that your children have helmets. And let’s go out and have a great time!
This month’s Oakland Plantation ride was a fantastic success. The weather was beautiful, and so was the scenery. All had a great time and are looking forward to next month’s ride.
